Dollarweed is a water-loving perennial weed that thrives in warm, humid regions of the South. It has bright green, rounded leaves with wavy margins, and the creeping stems root wherever their nodes touch the soil, increasing the number of plants. 

To help control dollarweed in your lawn, follow these three steps:

1. Dollarweed prefers damp growing conditions. Reduce watering, so your lawn only receives 1 inch of water per week which will allow the soil to dry down. Dollarweed won't be able to grow as well in drier soil conditions, making it more susceptible to the application of control products.

2. Improve the drainage in your soil to help further eliminate the damp soil conditions that dollarweed prefers.

3. Regular feeding, 2-4 times per year, provides the nutrients your lawn needs to grow thick to help crowd out dollarweed.

HELPFUL TIPS:

Mow high. Mowing at a height best for your lawn allows the grass to grow thick to help prevent weed seed germination by blocking sunlight's access to the soil.

Control it. Don't hand-pull dollarweed. If you don't remove all of the roots, the weed will grow back. If you only have a few dollarweed plants scattered throughout the lawn, spray them with Ortho® WeedClear™ Lawn Weed Killer Ready-to-Use.

To control a more widespread dollarweed problem, first, allow the lawn to dry out for two weeks. Your lawn will be able to handle this short dry spell, but dollarweed will become stressed, making it more susceptible to a control product. Then use Ortho® WeedClear™ Lawn Weed Killer Ready-to-Spray to treat the entire lawn.
