Identifying Crabgrass:

Crabgrass is an annual, grassy weed that germinates in late winter (south) through early spring (north) and dies with the first hard frost in the fall. It grows vigorously in hot, dry weather. If a crabgrass preventer is not applied in the spring, it will become noticeable in the lawn in mid- to late-summer. Crabgrass has grass blades that are wider than your desirable lawn grasses and low growing stems that sprawl along the ground and radiate out from the center of the plant in a star-shape. The plants form seed heads that resemble a crow's foot, and each plant can produce thousands seeds that remain viable in the soil for several years.
